You won’t believe that this amazing dessert is slimming and Weight Watchers friendly! With just a few simple ingredient swaps, you still get the rich and creamy taste, without all the calories.
We’ve used Options hot chocolate powder, which is a pre-portioned sachet of powder usually reserved for a tasty hot drink. Using it in cooking is an ingenious way of getting a white chocolatey hit in so many recipes without using actual chocolate.
Half fat double cream shaves off tons of calories but you still get the indulgent creamy texture. All in all, it’s hard to believe this sumptuous pud tastes as good as the real thing!
Have some fun playing with different fruit coulis flavours too: strawberry or blueberry would work really well. Let us know what your favourite flavour combo is!

We’ve used a couple of ingredients you might not have used before; 50% less fat double cream can be found in the dairy aisle, and we’ve used Elmlea brand in our recipe. It’s just as creamy but saves SO many calories!
Dr. Oetker Vege-Gel is found in the baking aisle and is a vegetarian substitute for beef gelatin, which makes it ideal if you’re veggie or cooking for vegetarians.
You should be able to pick both of them up at most large supermarkets.

Carefully spoon the mousse into your chosen container and pop in the fridge for at least 2 hours, or ideally overnight, to set.
Step 3
When ready to serve, turn out from the mould (if using) by dipping into some hot water (careful not to get the mousse wet!) and running a thin knife around the edge.

Would this work with yoghurt rather than cream?
HollyTuesday 31st January 2023
Hey Lindsay, it is the the double cream alternative when whipped that creates the creamy mousse texture. Hope that helps!

So you don’t mix the options mix with water or the vege- gel with water you just pour them into the cream
HollyTuesday 31st August 2021
Hey Noreen, no need to mix the options of vege-gel with any water just add them to a bowl along with the cream alternative and whisk using an electric hand whisk until it is thick and has doubled in volume. Hope that helps!
