A twist on traditional spaghetti dishes, the Bovril flavour gives this recipe a real kick!
This low calorie Bovril Spaghetti has just four simple ingredients and takes 10 minutes to cook, which means it’s a super easy and simple option for a light lunch or dinner.
You’ll only need one pan to make this dish, so you won’t be left with lots of washing up at the end, and it reheats really well so any leftovers can be enjoyed for lunch the following day.
If you wanted to bulk this dish out a bit more, then you can simply throw in any extra vegetables that you might have lying around. Pretty much any veggies will work really well, but we especially love mushrooms, tenderstem broccoli or some peppers.
You might find that you want a looser sauce, in which case simply add a couple of tbsp of the pasta water when you mix in your spaghetti.
Like your Bovril Spaghetti a bit tangier? Add a little extra Bovril to suit your tastes, but remember that you will need to adjust the calories and Points if you do this.
What diets is this Bovril Spaghetti suitable for?
This Bovril Spaghetti is suitable for dairy free diets as long as you omit the optional parmesan garnish or use a dairy free alternative.
Please make sure to double and triple check all of your ingredients if you’re cooking for people with allergies.
Do you need any special ingredients to make Bovril Spaghetti?
You don’t need any special ingredients to enjoy this recipe.

Bovril Spaghetti is perfect if you’re following a calorie controlled diet and fits well with any one of the major diet plans such as Weight Watchers.
As a guide, an average man needs around 2,500kcal (10,500kJ) a day to maintain a healthy body weight. For an average woman, that figure is around 2,000kcal (8,400kJ) a day. Obviously, if your goal is to lose weight then you might want to adjust these slightly! You can read more about these recommendations on the NHS website.
Step 1
Cook the spaghetti according to the instructions. Reserve a few tbsp of the pasta water in a separate bowl, and then drain the spaghetti. Leave in the colander.
Step 2
Spray the saucepan with plenty of low calorie cooking spray. On a low heat, stir in the Bovril. If you like your pasta particularly tangy, then add a little extra more Bovril at this point to suit your taste.
Step 3
Stir the pasta into the Bovril until the spaghetti is coated in the sauce. If you want a looser sauce, then mix in a couple of tbsp of the pasta water that you set aside earlier.
Step 4
Serve with some freshly ground black pepper and some grated parmesan (optional).

- Freeze it as soon as it is cold enough.
- Use a container or bag that is suitable for freezing.
Don’t forget to add a label with what it is, and on what date you put it in the freezer!

From chilled: Place in a microwave proof container with loosely fitting lid and heat for 4-7 minutes until piping hot.
From frozen: Allow to defrost, and heat covered in the microwave for 3-5 minutes then stir. Cook for a further 5-7 minutes until piping hot.

Can you use any stock cube?
SharonFriday 3rd March 2023
Hi Sharron, this recipe uses Bovril which is a beef extract paste. You could try using Marmite yeast extract spread as an alternative if you prefer. Enjoy the recipe!

I don’t quite understand this recipe. Is there any liquid in the saucepan with the Bovril or am I trying Bovril Powder? What do I do with the pasta and Bovril Powder after returning it to the pan?
Emma TMonday 23rd September 2019
Hi there,
When you put the Bovril into the frying pan, it will naturally melt and become looser. You can then easily stir in the pasta ????

We had this today at lunch time, with a salad, and it was lovely. A quick, tasty alternative to sandwiches. Thank you Pinch of Nom.
