1. Sausages with Creamy Lentils

Seasoned sausage meat doesn’t get any tastier than when it’s served with gravy or a creamy sauce. How about herby, pork sausages combined with sage, apple and peppery lentils? Sausages with Creamy Lentils is an indulgent tasting, yet light (only 394 calories per serving!) dish.

You can’t beat the convenience of a one pot meal – combine the meaty, veg-filled, cheesy mixture in a casserole pot and let the heat do all the work. It smells incredible bubbling away on the hob! We love to cut through the mild, creamy flavours with a sharp-tasting spoonful of red cabbage.

Don’t forget to soak up any saucy leftovers with a crusty piece of fresh bread.

A large, bottom-heavy casserole dish with a tight-fitting lid will get the best results from this recipe.

2. Sausage and Marmite Pie

Love it or hate it, we’ve used Marmite as a stock in our homely Sausage and Marmite Pie – you might be surprised by how well it brings out the meaty flavours in the filling. It’s a hugely comforting option to bake in the oven and plate up on a chilly evening. We’ve used HECK Chicken Italia sausages to make ours, but any low fat sausage of your choice will work for this recipe.

To add an extra layer of comfort, you can always add a sprinkling of cheddar cheese on top to finish, or stir it into the fluffy, mashed potato topping before it goes into the oven.

3. Toad in the Hole

You might think enjoying sausages in Yorkshire pudding batter would be out of the question whilst calorie counting, but our slimming friendly Toad in the Hole recipe is only 355 calories per portion. We’ve used juicy, low fat pork sausages, but you can always experiment with flavours.

You’ll definitely be able to see when this one is ready! Keep an eye on the Yorkshire pudding batter as it bakes in the oven – you’ll want to let the recipe rest on a lower heat for 10 minutes towards the end of cooking.

Make sure you resist the temptation to take a peek early (if the oven door opens, the batter could sink). As soon as it’s risen, nicely browned and crisp, it should be ready to plate up with steamed veggies.

4. Cowboy Pie

Yee-haw! The seriously cheesy, barbecue sauce flavours in our Cowboy Pie are guaranteed to become a firm family favourite. Packed with protein from sausages, veg and a helping of beans, it’s an indulgent recipe well worth making. We’d serve it up with a portion of freshly steamed veggies. Make sure the sausages and carrots in your filling are thoroughly cooked through before you add the fluffy mashed potato topping.

Better yet, the BBQ flavours in this hearty pie freeze so well and taste even better the next time you plate them up!

5. Slow Cooker Sausage Casserole

Why not unlock the flavours of sausages cooked low and slow? We love the easy convenience of a hearty midweek dinner from the slow cooker. Our Slow Cooker Sausage Casserole recipe is a great way to warm up – it’s packed with yummy veggies simmered in rich, tomatoey, butter bean sauce. You can leave it to bubble away for around 5-8 hours until the sausages are soft and piping hot throughout.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a slow cooker at home. You can bake it for 2-3 hours in your oven instead – place it in a casserole dish covered with a lid or foil. Easy peasy!

If you fancy a little something extra on the side, why not serve up a bowlful with a portion of Savoury Rice?

7. Pigs in Blankets in Puff Pastry

Easy to make with minimal fuss –  that’s all we want from a sausage recipe. These little Pigs in Blankets in Puff Pastry are so much tastier (and healthier!) than shop bought ones. They only use FOUR ingredients in total – you can’t get much simpler than that. We’ve used low fat chipolatas for our tasty, sausage roll filling and crispy, ready made light puff pastry for the casing. Pop them in the oven until they’re cooked through and golden.

They’re super light, small bites that are just as irresistible whether they’re served up hot or cold. Perfect for the party season!

8. Spicy Sausage Pasta

Pasta dishes are a reliable, easy way to introduce big flavour to your weekly dinner plan. Dishes like our Spicy Sausage Pasta are perfect to make when you’re short on time and on the lookout to use up some of your stray store cupboard ingredients. Why not be extra thrifty and chuck in a few extra veggies to bulk out the dish?

You can save yourself time throughout the week by batch cooking and stocking up on a few portions. It’ll taste even better reheated once the chilli flakes and garlic have had more time to mingle with the tomatoey sauce.

9. Italian Sausage Stew

Calling all families with fussy eaters! Our Italian Sausage Stew is the perfect recipe to sneak some hidden veggies by even the most eagle-eyed fusspots. We’ve thrown some low fat chicken sausages in, but low fat pork sausages would work just as well.

It’s rich and garlicky, so the peppers, onions and courgettes are firmly flavoured up and softened during cooking. It’s also a budget-friendly recipe to use up any available food waste – you can easily chuck in any leftover veggies you’ve got lying around.

Let it bubble away for 20 minutes until the sausages are cooked through and the pasta is tender. The smells are delish!

10. Sausage Egg and Chips Pizza

We guarantee this one will be a hit with the kids! Sausage, eggs and chips on pizza might sound like it doesn’t work, but trust us – it really does. Our Sausage Egg and Chips Pizza has all the delicious flavours of your favourite fry-up ingredients without the greasiness.

Using a low calorie tortilla wrap as our pizza dough alternative, we’ve created a crispy base that’s still seriously cheesy and tomatoey for only 427 calories. Don’t forget your toppings! We’ve added cherry tomatoes, sliced sausages and chips with a runny fried egg in the centre. This one’s best served straight away while the cheese is freshly melted and the chips are just browned.
