We’ve seen many weird and wonderful ways of making slimming Sausage rolls such as bread thins and filo pastry but after tons of experimentation we’ve finally found the perfect recipe for Sausage Rolls that look, taste and have the texture as if you’ve used REAL flaky pastry.
If you were to eat one without knowing what they’re made with, you’d swear it was pastry. We promise you! Because you know exactly what goes into the sausage filling too, you can rest assured there are no nasties hidden in these Sausage Rolls so you can focus on the bigger issue: will you dip them in ketchup or brown sauce?
These Sausage Rolls are also pretty damn tasty, you may never go back to the bakery again. Pile them into a picnic basket or pop them into the kids’ lunchboxes, that is if you can resist them!
What diets are these Sausage Rolls suitable for?
These Sausage Rolls could be made gluten free by swapping out the following ingredients for gluten free versions;

You can also enjoy these Sausage Rolls if you’re dairy free.
Please make sure to double or triple check all of your ingredients if you’re cooking for people with allergies.
Vegetarians could swap the pork mince for vegetarian sausages, or perhaps use the filling from our Cheese and Onion Pasties recipe instead!

Was wondering if you are thinking about creating a book for people who are on their own ? The book I have is like my bible at the moment and love it .At the moment I have the time to work it out for 1 but when go back to work full time, coming home I would want to just look at the book without needing to work out if that makes sense …
HollyFriday 12th March 2021
Hi Chrissi, thanks so much for your message, we are so glad you are a fan of the books and I will pass on your suggestion for a cookbook for 1! I tend to freeze extra portions of the recipes so that I have meals ready prepared in my freezer and just get them out the night before which really helps me.

Random question: can you use filo pastry instead of wraps? Just curious!
LisaTuesday 15th September 2020
Hi
Yes, you could but you might need to adjust the cooking times and temperatures to make sure the pastry and sausage are cooked at the same time. We’ve never tried it ourselves, so it would be a case of trial and error I’m afraid.

Hi could you substitute veggie mince for the pork mince?
SharonWednesday 29th July 2020
Hi Leigh, we haven’t tried this, but using veggie mince should work fine. Thanks for getting in touch.

Hello. When you say it’s under 400 calories per serving. How many sausages roll is classed as per serving? Is it under 400 calories per 1 full sausage roll, or per half a sausage roll when cut in half.
Thank you!
LisaWednesday 6th May 2020
Hi Abbie. Thanks for getting in touch. You can find how many servings each of our website recipes make at the bottom of the page along with a list of ingredients and the instructions. This particular recipe makes 6 sausage rolls and serves 3 people, so you get 2 sausage rolls for 399 calories. Hope this explains things.

Can you eat these cold or will they go soggy. Looking to make them for a party buffet.
Holly LevellMonday 18th May 2020
Hi Tracey, these Sausage Rolls will still be great cold. I’ve found some other ideas which would be great for a party buffet: Savoury Egg Bites, Chicken Satay Skewers or BLT Bites
TrudiMonday 12th August 2019
Hi, made these yesterday and they were amazing! My husband compared them to M&S ultimate sausage rolls – high praise indeed! Please could you confirm, are they 399 cal per sausage roll or is it 399 cal for 3?
Thanks x
Emma TMonday 23rd September 2019
Hi Trudi,
They are 399 per portion – the recipe makes 6 sausage rolls and serves 3, so 2 sausage rolls per portion ????
So glad you enjoyed them!
AnnFriday 28th June 2019
These look amazing! If I made a batch and froze them could I defrost them and then eat them cold?
Emma TMonday 1st July 2019
Hi Ann,
Yes, they can be frozen. You might need to reheat them in the oven if you’d like them to be crispy again, as freezing will make the wrap lose the crispness!
Sabrina FranklinSunday 26th May 2019
If I cooked and assembled these and kept some in the fridge, can I reheat them the next day? If so, what’s the best way of reheating them?
CateMonday 3rd June 2019
Yes you could! The oven works best, just cover them with some foil and make sure they are piping hot throughout before serving 🙂
HelenMonday 14th January 2019
How do you convert to US ingredients?
CateWednesday 10th April 2019
Hi Helen,
What do you need to convert? 400g of mince (ground pork) is just over 14 ounces if that helps! 🙂
ClaireTuesday 16th October 2018
Could you use fresh pork mince and pickles assemble them then freeze them with out cooking.
Claire
