Next time you fancy a flaky baked treat, make yourself a batch of these Cheese and Ham Pastries. So quick and easy to whip up, you’re going to love how much lower in calories they are than the ones you’d usually get from the bakery!

We’ve used our favourite trick of swapping pastry for tortilla wraps – don’t judge it until you’ve tried it! The wraps get all golden and crispy in the oven, giving you that perfect crunch when you bite into these delicious parcels.

We’ve mixed together cream cheese, spinach, tomatoes, ham and some Cheddar (because there’s no such thing as too much cheese) to stuff inside these pastries. You can just imagine how cheesy and delicious they are fresh from the oven!

At just 178 calories each, they’re ideal for a mid-afternoon snack or you can add some chips or salad on the side to turn them into a lovely lunch.

What diets are these Cheese and Ham Pastries suitable for?

This Cheese and Ham Pastries recipe can be made gluten free as long as you use gluten free tortilla wraps.

If you’d like to make this recipe dairy free, please swap the following ingredients for suitable non-dairy alternatives:

  • Reduced fat Cheddar cheese
  • Light cream cheese

As always, take extra care when cooking for people with allergies and be sure to use different utensils, cookware and preparation areas.

How do you know when Cheese and Ham Pastries are cooked?

You should cook these Cheese and Ham Pastries until the tortilla wrap casing has turned golden brown and crisp. This will take around 12 minutes.

To keep your family safe, the advice here in the UK is to cook food until it has reached 70°C and maintained that temperature for 2 minutes.

How long can you keep Cheese and Ham Pastries in the fridge?

It’s best that you eat this recipe within 4 hours of serving it.

This recipe will always taste best when it’s freshly cooked and eaten right away. If you store cooked Cheese and Ham Pastries in the fridge you may find that the wraps become soggy and the filling starts to separate. Luckily, they don’t take long to make from scratch and it’s worth it for that delicious crunch!

Can I freeze Cheese and Ham Pastries?

We wouldn’t recommend freezing this recipe as the wraps may become soggy and the filling could start to separate. These Cheese and Ham Pastries are quick to make, and they always taste best fresh from the oven.
