Takeaway calzones are no doubt delicious, but full of extra grease and high in calories so they’re not great for a slimming diet like Weight Watchers.
These Ham and Mushroom Pizza Calzones are the perfect way to satisfy your appetite when you’re pining for pizza without blowing your diet! We use a surprising ingredient, a tortilla wrap, as it provides a firm, bread-like “dough” that’s super versatile and crisps up really well when baked in the oven.
Packed with Italian flavours and just enough gooey cheese to kill those cravings, this lighter version of the takeaway classic may well become preferable to the real thing!
What diet is this Ham and Mushroom Pizza Calzone suitable for?
This can easily be made gluten free by making sure you use a GF wrap. You can also enjoy this when following a dairy free diet, as long as you use a dairy free cheese.
Please make sure to double or triple check all of your ingredients if you’re cooking for people with allergies.

How many calories are in this Ham and Mushroom Pizza Calzone?
We worked this recipe out to be approximately 390 calories per calzone, which means it fits into our Everyday Light category, but as always, please double check any nutritional information yourself.
A small classic Pepperoni Feast from Pizza Hut clocks up 1,050 calories, so this is a really great swap!
This recipe is perfect if you’re following a calorie controlled diet and fits well with any one of the major diet plans such as Weight Watchers.
As a guide, an average man needs around 2,500kcal (10,500kJ) a day to maintain a healthy body weight. For an average woman, that figure is around 2,000kcal (8,400kJ) a day. Obviously, if your goal is to lose weight then you might want to adjust these slightly! You can read more about these recommendations on the NHS website.
Step 1
Take a wrap and spread the passata over half (be careful not to get any too close to the edge).
Step 2
Place all of the remaining ingredients (apart from the egg!) on one half of the wrap (again be careful not to get any too close to the edge).
Step 3
Brush the exposed side of the wrap and all around the edges with beaten egg.
Step 4
Fold the wrap in half and press down around the edge. Crimp the edges using the back of a fork, then place on a baking tray sprayed with low calorie cooking spray. Brush the outside of the pasty with beaten egg.
Step 5
Bake at 200°C for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Can you switch the passata for tomato puree?
CateFriday 31st May 2019
Passata is a bit thinner than tomato puree so you may want to add a little water if you are substituting :|)

Made these for a food taster this evening and they were a hit, especially for our under sixteen member as they are struggling with packed lunches. I will definitely be making more of them.

Do you need to cook these and the pasties before you freeze them?
Emma TMonday 11th September 2017
Hi Michelle,
I would recommend cooking them first. If you pop some parchment between them before freezing, they’ll be easier to separate ????
ManuelaWednesday 2nd August 2017
I made this for our dinner today and both my husband and son loved it Ham and Mushroom Pizza Calzone. I was told to make it again.

Jayne HansonWednesday 2nd August 2017
I found these really nice but quite greasy when eating them tried flipping them over when cooking but still grease dripped out can you recommend anything to prevent this
Emma TMonday 11th September 2017
Hi Jayne,
I think it would depend on the cheese and ham you’ve used, or how much frylight you sprayed on your baking tray.
Hope that helps!
