Sweet Chilli Sauce - Pinch of Nom Slimming Recipes

For the full list of ingredients and comprehensive instructions, please see the recipe card below. Before you scroll, there’s important stuff in the blurb!

This slimming friendly Sweet Chilli Sauce is low on calories and Points, but doesn’t compromise on flavour.  This has to be one of our easiest recipes as it takes less than 15 minutes to make.  Once your Sweet Chilli Sauce is ready you can store it in an airtight jar in the fridge for around a week or so.

We’ve used xanthan gum to thicken this sauce which means that it’s also suitable for gluten free diets.  You can add as little or as much chilli as you like, it all depends on how hot you like your food – it’s no secret that we like a kick to our meals!

What diets is this Sweet Chilli Sauce suitable for?

This Sweet Chilli Sauce is suitable for vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free diets.

If you swap the honey for agave syrup it can also be made suitable for vegans.

Please make sure to double or triple check all of your ingredients if you’re cooking for people with allergies.

Do you need any special ingredients to make Sweet Chilli Sauce?

First, you’ll need a fine grater and we’ve used our snazzy Deiss grater!  It’s great (pardon the pun) for grating not only cheese, but also garlic, onions, ginger, anything really!

You’ll also need some xanthan gum which is a thickener that works a bit like cornflour – but you only need to add a little!  When we say a little, we mean that you’ll only need to use 1/4 tsp xanthan gum in place of 1 tbsp cornflour.

Last but not least, if you don’t have a glass jar to store this in then you may want to grab something like this Kilner Clip Top Jar from Amazon.

    Hi Michelle
Yes, you can use cornflour to thicken this. About a level tsp mixed with a little water should be enough.
    Hope this helps

Tried to make this sauce twice now and still can’t get rid of the vinegar after taste. I’ve had it simmering for 10 min and still there. Is there anything else to try?
Advice welcome

Hi Tash, If it is too vinegary for your taste, I’d suggest replacing half the amount of vinegar with water. Hope this helps!

I love this recipe. Can it be frozen?

Reply

    Hi Rosemarie,

We’ve not tried freezing it, I’m not sure it would work as it may become gloopy when defrosted.

    Hope that helps!

Hi, I have made this today but have had to add another tablespoon.of sweetener, the recipe states 1.5 tbsp but further down in blue you say it takes 2.5 which is correct.

    Hi Zoe,

It might need reducing a little more to burn off the vinegar taste ????
