Bepps Black Eyed Pea Popped Snacks Salt and Black Pepper – 86 calories per serving
It’s tradition up North to eat peas on Guy Fawkes Night, so we’ve paid homage to that with Bepps’ Black-Eyed Pea Popped Snacks. Just 86 calories per bag, these vegan-friendly nibbles are coated in a punchy salt and black pepper seasoning. Perfect to nibble on while the bonfire is roaring, they’re packed full of fibre to sustain you through a long, chilly night of festivities.
If savoury crispiness is what you’re after, look no further than our Spinach and Feta Turnovers. The crumbly feta filling is sure to have your guests coming back for more. We’ve kept the calories lower by using tortilla wraps as our ‘pastry’ – not that you’d be able to tell!
Bepps Black Eyed Pea Popped Snacks Salt and Black Pepper are available from Sainsbury’s, priced at £1.80 per bag.
Brooklea Protein Peach and Passionfruit Yogurt Pouch – 148 calories per pouch
Aldi is keeping the protein party going with its Brooklea Peach and Passionfruit Yogurt Pouches. Because they’re a fruity, filling snack in pouch form, they make it easier than ever to curb your cravings on the go, for just 148 calories per pack. While you’ll see strawberry and raspberry pouches on the shelves too, we couldn’t resist picking the autumnal option from the bunch.
If you love a fruit-based pudding as much as we do, try our Peach and Blueberry Tart with a glug of Custard. A combination of flaky puff pastry, fresh fruits and cream cheese sweetened with sticky reduced-sugar apricot jam, it beats a bakery-bought tart every time.
Brooklea Protein Peach and Passionfruit Yogurt Pouch is available from Aldi, priced at 85p per pouch.
Nature’s Pick Butternut Squash Stir-fry – 116 calories per 1/2 pack (1 serving)
When you’re in a time pinch, a batch of ready-chopped veggies like this Nature’s Pick Butternut Squash Stir-fry is a lifesaver. Aldi has done the legwork with this colourful crunchy mixture of butternut squash chunks, mangetout, chopped chillies and leafy greens. All you need to do is grab your wok and fry for 5 minutes!
We’ve given butternut squash a pizza-inspired makeover for our Squash Pizza Slices. Our topping is every bit as cheesy and tomatoey as you’d find on a traditional pastry base, except ours is a nutritious Everyday Light alternative.
We love them with a fresh salad or crispy potato wedges on Fakeaway night.
Nature’s Pick Butternut Squash Stir-fry is available from Aldi, priced at 95p.
Morrisons Plant Revolution Chicken Chunks With Thai Green Sauce – 250 calories per 1/2 pack (1 serving)
Morrisons has Meatless Mondays covered with its Plant Revolution Chicken Chunks and Thai Green Sauce. Made with wheat, soya and pea protein, the ‘chicken’ chunks go straight in the pan to be heated through. The sauce is in a separate sachet, so it’s up to you whether you want an abundance of Thai-style flavours or not.
For our Thai Style Pork Curry, we’ve used dairy-free coconut milk to give our sauce its rich creaminess without ramping up the calories. An explosion of aromatic deliciousness, you can leave your spices and herbs to mingle for longer in the slow cooker if you fancy (or speed things up a bit with our Instant Pot method!).
Plant Revolution Chicken Chunks With Thai Green Sauce is available from Morrisons, priced at £3.00.
Morrisons Free From Sea Salt and Black Pepper Crackers – 20 calories per cracker
You’ll have to wait until Saturday night for firecrackers, but we’ve got these Morrisons Free From Sea Salt and Black Pepper Crackers in the meantime. Whether as an appetiser, savoury snack or after-dinner palate cleanser, they’re the ideal gluten-free base for your favourite toppings.
If reduced-fat cheese and pickles are going on your cracker, you’ll love hearing that our Cheese and Pickle Twists are bursting with the same classic flavour combo.
Even if you don’t have time to prepare them before the party starts, these low-fuss swirls only need 15 minutes in the oven before they’re ready to shine!
Free From Sea Salt and Black Pepper Crackers are available from Morrisons, priced at £2.00 per box.
Seabrook Loaded Fries Crunchy Cheese and Bacon Flavour – 75 calories per bag
You can always count on Seabrook for mouth-watering flavours, and it’s really delivered with its Crunchy Cheese and Bacon Loaded Fries. Baked rather than fried, it’s only 75 calories for a pack of oh-so-cheesy smoked bacon deliciousness. They’re so good, we can’t promise there won’t be a tussle for the last bag…
It’s no love cheese and bacon together – just take our Melty Bacon and Cheese Pork Burgers as proof. To make our lean pork patties extra-special, we’ve jazzed up our reduced-fat Cheddar melts with a dash of sweet paprika and smoky bacon pieces. You won’t regret rustling them up on your next burger night!
If that sounds too good to miss, you can try these and 25 other exclusive recipes that are just as delicious in our Family Meal Planner. You can grab a copy here.
Seabrook Loaded Fries Crunchy Cheese and Bacon Flavour are available from Iceland, priced at £1.00 per bag.
The Fishmonger Salt and Vinegar Battered Wholetail Scampi – 244 calories per serving
When you’re caught without a plan, these budget-friendly The Fishmonger Salt and Vinegar Battered Wholetail Scampi will pair nicely with chips or veggies. Ready to go in under 25 minutes, you’ll want to keep an eye out for when the breadcrumb coating is crisp and golden.
You can’t beat fish, chips and mushy peas. A love letter to the classic British dish, our Fish and Chip Pie combines all three. If you’re going to do it, you’ve got to do it right – so we’ve made sure not to skimp on the salt and vinegar for our topping of oven-baked chips.
It beats popping to the chippy any day of the week!
The Fishmonger Salt and Vinegar Battered Wholetail Scampi is available from Aldi, priced at £2.19.
Mr Kipling Sticky Toffee Pudding Slices – 99 calories per slice
Far kinder to your teeth than a toffee apple, we can’t get enough of Mr Kipling’s Sticky Toffee Pudding Slices. An easy, sweet pick-me-up for 99 calories each, they’re made with 30% less sugar than their similar cakes. If the toffee-infused sponge can’t tempt you, maybe the gooey, toffee centre will…
Speaking of toffee apples, have you tried our Toffee Apple Swirls yet? They’re one of our newest recipes (from our October round-up!), and we think it’s well worth being one of the first to try them.
For only 102 calories per swirl, you’ll get a mouthful of crunchy pastry and a warmed, cinnamon-apple filling. They’re our new favourite autumn treat!
Mr Kipling 5 Sticky Toffee Pudding Slices are available from Asda, priced at £1.50 for a box of 5.
Italio Gelato Black Truffles – 192 calories per truffle
There’s plenty of sweet deliciousness to gain from having these Italio Gelato Black Truffles in your freezer. Small but mighty, each 192-calorie truffle ball has two different frozen layers to bite into. Before you get to the cocoa and Chantilly ice creams in the middle, you’ll have to break through the rich, chocolatey, cocoa-powder crumb it’s rolled in.
If that sounds like a delight to you, they’re on Asda’s shelves in a white chocolate version as well.
When it comes to dinner party season, Sweet Treats that are full of flavour for little effort are the name of the game. The irresistible combination of banana and caramel (with a tiramisu-style coffee twist!) in our Banoffee Tiramisu does most of the work for you.
Pop each portion in impressive-looking serving dishes and they’ll go out with a bang at your bonfire bash!
Italio Gelato Black Truffles are available from Asda, priced at £3.00 for 2 large truffles.
Ambrosia Sticky Toffee Flavour Rice Pudding – 200 calories per 1/2 can
Nothing says ‘Bonfire Night’ quite like sticky toffee flavours. Ambrosia’s Sticky Toffee Flavour Rice Pudding has arrived just in time to warm you up while the Guy Fawkes festivities are underway – you can enjoy yours cold, if you prefer.
Velvety and creamy, the super sweet toffee flavouring adds a whole new level of comfort to a store cupboard staple.
We’ve ditched shortcrust pastry for filo to get our Toffee Apple Pies bonfire ready for fewer calories. Beneath the scrunched-up pastry lid, each ramekin holds an explosion of warm, caramelised apples and sultanas. Don’t forget to ramp up the luxury with a finishing drizzle of reduced-sugar caramel on top!
Ambrosia Sticky Toffee Flavour Rice Pudding is available from Sainsbury’s, priced at £1.50.
NEW Aldi Super 6 Fruit and Veg Selection
We love Aldi’s Super 6 selection of fresh fruit and veggies! Each fortnight they choose six different items for a special offer where you can pick them up for much less than the normal price. Here’s the rundown of this week’s offering, along with some recipe ideas for you.
Green Beans – 40 calories per 100g
Nutritious green beans are so versatile to cook with! Roast them, air fry them or enjoy them in stews and curries. Have you tried them as a lighter alternative to eating fries with dinner yet?
They add a satisfying pop of green to our Spicy Sausage Pasta. This tomatoey dish is so effortlessly delicious, you’ll definitely want to batch cook extra portions for a rainy day.
Brussels Sprouts – 40 calories per 100g
One of the most notorious leafy greens available, we can’t help loving Brussels Sprouts. Forget about boiling them! Try popping them in the oven coated in a moreish glaze, or shredding them up to fry in the pan with bacon bits.
It’s never too early in the year for our Cheesy Sprout Bake. Baked in the oven until crispy and golden on top, even the fussiest eaters won’t be able to say no.
Sweet Vine Tomatoes – 60 calories per 100g
High in vitamins and low in calories, we love throwing vine tomatoes into our midweek meals. Bursting with juicy, tomatoey goodness, they’re one of the key ingredients in our Baked Cod Provencal. This cosy fish dinner is a great way to take a break from meat, and it’ll get you well on your way to 5-a-day.
Mini Pears – 75 calories per 100g
How adorable are these mini pears? They might be small, but they are just as crisp and sweet as the bigger versions. A snack-sized delight, take them on the go with you or chop them up as a sweet porridge topping.
The warmer they are, the sweeter they get; which means pears are perfect for bakes like our Pear and Ginger Crumble. You won’t believe they’re only 177 calories per pot!
Unwaxed Lemons – 52 calories per 100g
Since they’re so versatile and packed with health benefits, we don’t mind at all when life gives us lemons. Their trademark zingines can enhance bakes, take a plateful of pancakes to the next level and provide a fuss-free citrusy garnish.
Add a drizzle of tangy lemon juice over our Garlic Chilli Prawns for Mediterranean holiday style flavours, even in autumn. You can rustle them up in 20 minutes and they’re SO GOOD paired with pasta.
Mini Apples – 22 calories per 100g
You can’t beat a bite from a fresh, crunchy apple! These travel-sized fruits bring a high amount of natural fibre and nutrients to your snack break, and they’re a stellar topping for our Apple Pie Porridge.
We’ve glazed our apple slices with honey to make them even sweeter. A warming breakfast that would make Goldilocks jealous, there’s no better way to kick off a chilly morning.
