Synning the sweetener in this Low Syn Apple & Blackberry Crumble

As you will probably know, Slimming World brought out some new recommendations regarding the syn value of granulated sweeteners. This means that:

Where there is 1 tbsp or more being used per serving they recommend you count 0.5 Syn per tbsp. If using smaller amounts, like a pinch or teaspoon, there’s no need to worry about Syns at all.

The recipe for this Low Syn Apple & Blackberry Crumble uses 3 tablespoons of sweetener and is divided into 4 portions. That’s a lot less than a tablespoon per portion, so there’s no need to add add any Syns on for the sweetener itself.

    1. Hi Bev,
All Syns info is listed on the recipe card and in the recipe blurb, too. 🙂
      Thanks for getting in touch!

  1. Love a crumble so definitely going to have to try this recipe. I generally don’t use sweetener or low fat spread, so can I ask are there brands you’d recommend work well?

    1. Hi Simon
You’ll just need to check the pack to make sure it’s okay for baking, as not all reduced fat spreads are. I tend to use Flora Light for my baking. 🙂

    1. Hi Alex
You can use any basic porridge oats from a supermarket. You should avoid the sachets, as they often have added sugar. 🙂

    1. Hi Alison
We use Sukrin, which is identical in weight and sweetness to sugar. 3 level tbsp of Sukrin works well in this recipe. Other sweeteners may vary in weight/sweetness, so you may need to experiment a little. If you look on the manufacturer’s website, there’s usually a conversion chart for their own product as a guide.
