These Cheese Palmiers are super tasty and really hit the spot if you’re looking for something savoury to nibble on.
These have always been a real favourite of ours, and they are normally really calorific due to the buttery pastry and high-fat cheese. You need to be delicate when rolling them out but they are well worth the effort!
We like to serve these Cheese Palmiers with some carrot and cucumber sticks, and with a dip. The Arla Tomato and Basil Quark is perfect for this, with a little dusting of paprika – YUMMM!!

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 180ºC and line a baking tray with non-stick baking paper, you may need two depending on the size of your trays.
Step 2
Lay the puff pastry flat on the work surface and sprinkle over the Parmesan cheese and paprika.
Step 3
Starting with the top long edge, roll it into the middle, trying to keep it as tight as possible. Roll the bottom edge up to the middle to meet and press the two rolls together a little. Leave in a fridge to chill for 15 minutes.
Step 4
Once chilled, cut into 32 pieces. Lay each swirl onto a baking tray, being careful that they don’t unravel! With a rolling pin, flatten each swirl – the layers will press together to form one whole heart shaped piece – they should be around the thickness of a pound coin.
Step 5
Place in the oven and cook for 10-15 minutes until golden and crisp. Serve warm with your choice of dip!

Can I assemble these and then freeze?
Then cook from frozen when needed?

Hi Susan, it would probably be best to assemble these Cheese Palmiers and bake them before freezing. Then defrost thoroughly before reheating. If you freeze them before baking you may find they don’t hold their shape well. Thanks for your question and hope this helps.
