These Portguese Custard Tarts are really simple to make – you could even rope the kids into helping!

If you haven’t already got a muffin tin then this one from Amazon would do the job nicely!

You could even make some Mini Portuguese Custard Tarts – use the same ingredients but make 24 instead!

You’ll need a mini muffin tin like this one from Amazon.

This mini muffin tin is soooo useful – we use them all the time, not just for baking recipes but also for these Half Syn Mini Yorkshire Puddings!

You’ll also need some pastry cutters for these Mini Portuguese Custard Tarts. You can get a neat little set from Amazon!

There are loads of different sweeteners available. For these Portuguese Custard Tarts, we’ve used this Erythritol Gold. It’s widely available online and you can pick some up on Amazon.

It tastes (almost!) as good as brown sugar, with no nasty sweetener aftertaste and works really well in baking. Plus, it weighs the same as sugar so you don’t need to use loads!

How many Syns are in these Portguese Custard Tarts?

Shop bought versions of these tasty morsels would set you back around 12.5 Syns. These Mini Portguese Custard Tarts are just 2.5 Syns each.

You could make a “mini” version – just adjust the Syns accordingly!

How many Weight Watchers Smart Points Flex are in these Portguese Custard Tarts?

You can buy Portguese Custard Tarts in a well known high-street coffee shop, but it’d set you back 7 Points a pop! These Portuguese Custard Tarts are a lowly 2 Points each!

If you fancied a mini version, use a normal baking tin and make 24 – you would just need to halve the Points, Syns, or Calories!

How many Calories are in these Mini Portuguese Custard Tarts?

Hold onto your hats…these Portuguese Custard Tarts have just 76 calories each!! So if you fancied making them into a mini sized version, they’d still only be 38calories each!

A standard version of these delicious treat are normally around 250kcal each!

Each circle of pastry will weigh around 14 grams, and then Syns, points and calories have been calculated by the amount that will be consumed. From a standard sheet of light puff pastry, you will have plenty of spare but will easily be able to cut out 12 circles!

Can I freeze these Mini Portuguese Custard Tarts?

This recipe can be frozen, but please remember to do the following;
– Freeze it as soon as it is cold enough
– Use a container or bag that is suitable for freezing.
– Defrost thoroughly before reheating.

Make sure it’s piping hot before serving!

How do I make these Portugese Custard Tarts?

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 170°C. Spray a muffin tin with low calorie cooking spray.

Step 2

Unroll the puff pastry. Using a cutter which is slightly larger than each muffin dip, cut 12 circles.

Step 3

Place each pastry circle into the muffin tin, pushing carefully into the sides.

Step 4

Mix the egg, egg yolk, milk and sweetener in a jug – make sure you whisk until it is fully combined so there is no separation in the egg. Pour into each pastry case.

Step 5

Sprinkle each custard tart with a little ground nutmeg and bake in the oven for 20 minutes until the pastry is golden and the egg is just set.

Step 6

Remove from the oven, take out of the tin and leave to cool on a wire rack. Eat as a snack or as part of a dessert!
