Do you need any special ingredients or equipment to make these Chicken Goujons?

This post contains affiliate links. Find out what this means.

There are no special ingredients for these Chicken Goujons. They are all readily available at all supermarkets.

Making breadcrumbs is so easy with one of these Mini Electric Choppers which you can get on Amazon.

They’re a really useful gadget for whizzing up herbs and spices, as well as making breadcrumbs. You can even use it to make hummus!

This Mini Electric Chopper is a real space saver when compared to a full size food processor, so it’s great if you’re pushed for space…or have a cupboard full of gadgets (totally guilty of that one!)

How do I know when these Chicken Goujons are cooked?

When cooked, the breadcrumbs should be crisp and golden and the chicken inside should have no sign of pink. Standard advice here in the UK is to cook food until it has reached 70°C and stayed at that temperature for 2 minutes. This is to keep your family safe.

How long can you keep Chicken Goujons in the fridge?

Any leftovers should be cooled and refrigerated as quickly as possible, and can be stored in the fridge, in an airtight container for up to 3 days. They are great eaten cold, but if you want to reheat, you must ensure they are piping hot and have reached 70ºC for 2 minutes. Never reheat more than once!

Can I freeze these Chicken Goujons?

This recipe can be frozen, but please remember to do the following;
– Freeze it as soon as it is cold enough
– Use a container or bag that is suitable for freezing.
– Defrost thoroughly before reheating.

Make sure it’s piping hot before serving!

  1. Preheat oven to 180ºC, line 2 large baking sheets with greaseproof paper and lightly spray with Frylight.
  2. Break the bread into pieces and place into a mini chopper, along with the parsley, garlic, salt, pepper, mustard powder and the finely grated rind of the lemon.
  3. Beat the eggs and place into a shallow dish. Place the breadcrumb mix into a separate dish.

  1. I made these with gluten free breadcrumbs and they were gorgeous! the whole family enjoyed them, thank you x

  2. It looks delicious!! I want to make it today. Can you tell me if you toasted the bread? Sorry for my ignorance. Thanks for the recipe and inspiration!!

    1. Hi Lia
No, you do not need to toast the bread. One tip for breadcrumbs is to use slightly older slices of bread as they tend to crumb a bit more more easily

  3. Have just made these for dinner in a bit and they look and smell delicious so really hoping they are even more so when they are cooked! Thank you so much for all your hard work and wonderful recipes that we all use everyday….. you’re SUPERSTARS x

  4. Hi

Really like the look of this recipe but I’m on weight watchers would I use weight watchers bread for my crumbs and use my points to balance this??
    Many thanks

  5. Making these for dinner tonight. I go to W.W but need inspiration with other recipes. Will post what the family thought about them. By the way I’ve joined this group as most of the recipes I would cook as I always cook from scratch.

  6. Can I replace the lemon with chilli to make garlic and chilli Goujons or would that make the mix too dry?? Also do you freeze once cooked or raw after coating. Thinking of making for a get together with friends so would be good to pre make and put in the oven later to eat hot

  7. Hello.

I really want to try these but my partner is allergic to egg. Is there any other way of making these without dipping the chicken in the egg then the breadcrumbs? Would milk work?

    Thank you!
