KFC Fakeaway - Pinch of Nom Slimming Recipes

For the full list of ingredients and comprehensive instructions, please see the recipe card at the end of this post. Before you scroll, there’s important stuff to know in the blurb!

KFC on a slimming diet? YES PLEASE! There’s no need to deny yourself the succulent chicken, crispy coating and not-so-secret spice mix anymore, with our delicious KFC Fakeaway. This is a real crowd pleaser of a recipe: mild enough that the kids won’t think it’s too spicy, yet savoury and full of flavour for an ideal for a fakeaway Friday. You could even enjoy KFC Fakeaway for a lunchtime treat alongside a crisp, fresh salad.

It will even work out cheaper than a weekly takeaway as there will be plenty of spice mix left over. Simply pop it in an airtight container for next time.

What diets are this KFC Fakeaway recipe suitable for?

This KFC Fakeaway can easily be adapted to suit a gluten free diet, by using gluten free bread to make the breadcrumbs.

It is also suitable for a dairy free diet.

Please make sure to double or triple check all of your ingredients if you’re cooking for people with allergies.

Do you need any special ingredients to make this KFC Fakeaway?

Panko is a Japanese-style breadcrumb traditionally used as a coating for deep-fried foods, and is made from bread without crusts. It’s lower in calories than regular breadcrumbs, and it’s a bigger crumb so it goes further. There are also many other things you could use such as Smash, crushed Rice Krispies, a breadcrumbed wholemeal roll, couscous, quinoa or bulgar wheat.

The values we have provided are using panko breadcrumbs so make sure you adjust the values accordingly.

Hints & Tips

Below we added some of our communities most common hints and tips. We hope you find them useful.

Fakeaway burger with hash brown
Made a fakeaway, kfc style zinger burger, with hash brown, I used a brioche bun, and spicey vegetarian chickn burger, made homemade gravynaise with southern fried gravy mix and low cal mayo, topped with cheese slice and lettuce,

KFC zinger fakeaway
I’d recommend double coating in the Doritos for extra crispy.
Nom nom nom
I'd maybe add some celery salt next time and invest in a herb/spice grinder instead of using the big processor
KFC Burger Fakeaway
Followed the exact recipe except I added crushed cheesy doritos (taken from the zinger burger where it uses the heatwave ones)

We like to use panko breadcrumbs because you get more bang for your buck. It can be found in the Oriental aisle of most supermarkets, or you can get it on Amazon.

You can bake the chicken on greaseproof paper to make sure nothing sticks to the tray. It’s so handy to keep in the cupboard!

Hello!
Is it possible to make these without mustard seeds. I’m allergic so I wouldn’t out then in anyway but don’t want it to ruin the flavour if I don’t ?

Hi Jess, we haven’t tried leaving out the mustard seeds, but it should still be very tasty without them. Let us know how it goes. Thanks for your question.

    Hi Jonathan!

Yes you could keep it covered for a couple of days in the fridge and then reheat. Just make sure it is piping hot throughout before serving.

    Hope that helps! 🙂

I have tried to blitz the herbs for the coating in my mini chopper as don’t have a good processor but it hasn’t worked. I have also tried bashing with a rolling pin but can’t get to a fine powder stage. Can anyone recommend how to do this using basic kitchen equipment please

Reply

    Emma TMonday 11th September 2017

    Hi Becky,

Just blitz them as finely as you can ???? You could also try a heavy pestle and mortar.

NatalieSaturday 19th August 2017

Just put it in the oven, although we didn’t have any thyme or dried onion (despite us buying all of the spices today, D’OH!) hoping it’ll still taste good! Also forgot to fry-lite before putting them in the oven… Bit of a fail. Still, our kitchen smells devine, can’t wait for them to be cooked!

Mine was overly peppery very hot but some of my peppercorns are huge need to cut it down.

Reply

    Emma TMonday 11th September 2017

    Hi Alex,

The pepper needs to be ground so as to avoid large peppery lumps. If you like it less peppery then don’t add as much pepper ????

I made this last week and the week before using thighs and breast, both times I use Smash as my crumbs and I love it. My family don’t normally eat my SW meals but this is their favourite so much so they have emptied out my post of seasoning themselves I got to rustle up some more x
