On busy days, it’s so nice to be able to throw a few simple ingredients into a dish and let the oven work its magic. This Sausage Traybake is minimal in effort, but so rewarding when it comes to flavour.
There’s no need for multiple pans or lots of prep, just parboil the potatoes and carrots and then throw everything into a roasting dish. Who doesn’t love a recipe with less washing up afterwards?
Drawing on the classic combination of pork and apple, this recipe includes fresh wedges of apple, nestled in with onions, carrots and potatoes. Coated in a honey and mustard sauce, all the flavours mingle together as they roast, turning golden, caramelised and completely irresistible.
Although we’ve used reduced fat pork sausages there’s no reason these can’t be swapped for vegetarian sausages if you want to make this recipe meat-free. Just remember to keep an eye on the calories if you’re following a diet plan.
What diets is this Sausage Traybake suitable for?
This Sausage Traybake can be enjoyed on a dairy free diet. The recipe can be made gluten free if you swap the sausages for a gluten free version.
It can also be made vegetarian as long as you use veggie sausages.
If you’re cooking for people with allergies, be extra careful when checking ingredients and preparing food!
Do you need any special ingredients to make Sausage Traybake?
Our favourite thing about this recipe is that you don’t need anything fancy! It uses simple, hearty ingredients that are available in your usual supermarket.

I don’t have any cooking apples only tinned, would they be ok to use?
SharonThursday 22nd September 2022
Hi Sallie, this recipe uses an eating apple but you could use tinned raw apple slices instead. Tinned raw apple slices packed without any syrup or water would work well. Enjoy the recipe!

Can I use normal mustard for this as don’t have any whole grain?
SharonThursday 14th July 2022
Hi Louise, you could use a different mustard such as Dijon or English mustard but just add a little at a time to suit your taste as these can be much hotter. Wholegrain mustard contributes to a clear sauce but other mustards will make it less so. Hope that helps.

Hi I didn’t realise it was best not to freeze this. (Should off checked before) I have loads left and definitely won’t eat it within 2 days- its only me lol is there any reason you recommend not to freeze it?
Thanks
HollyTuesday 5th July 2022
Hi Christine, we just think it’s best made fresh or reheated from chilled as sometimes potatoes can lose their texture once frozen and defrosted. Hope that helps!

I plan to make this but don’t have garlic “granules” only powder. What would the conversion be please? I’m in Canada 😉
HollyMonday 13th June 2022
Hey Jane, garlic powder is fine in this recipe! Garlic granules have a coarser consistency whereas garlic power is ground a lot finer, hope that helps!
