This week’s Weekly Pinch of Shopping is a round-up of some of our favourite, slimming friendly festive food to help make your Christmas extra special this year.
Whether you’re following a vegetarian, vegan or gluten free diet, we’re tracked down some of the best, low calorie products to help you enjoy some delicious festive food, without having to worry about all of the extra calories.
Start your meal off in style with a duck pate flavoured with clementine, or some smoked salmon, before finishing with some chocolate meringues and some boozy, orange cream.
And don’t forget the cheeseboard!
We’ve found some seriously tasty slimming essentials to help make your Christmas cheeseboard totally irresistible.
Serve alongside a glass of Gingerbread Latte Cream Liqueur to create a real showstopper of a course!

Morrisons Best Beefless Wellington – 361 calories per serving
Being a vegan at Christmas shouldn’t have to mean that you’re stuck feeling like an afterthought with the same old nut roast.
At 361 calories per serving Morrisons’ Best Beefless Wellington is suitable for enjoying on a slimming friendly diet and it’s a delicious vegan centrepiece for your Christmas table.
Crispy pastry wrapped around an apricot, cranberry and chestnut duxelle, this wellington also features a wholegrain mustard melt to really boost those festive flavours.

There’s nothing better than gooey, melted cheese and some crusty bread at Christmas!
This ASDA Extra Special Vintage Red Fox Red Leicester & Sweet Chilli Bake is a twist on a classic and a delicious alternative to camembert or brie.
Suitable for vegetarians and with a drizzle of sweet chilli relish mixed throughout, each ¼ pot serving is only 114 calories so you can indulge without worrying about tons of extra calories.
Perfect served as a starter or with a couple of glasses of wine in front of your favourite Christmas movie.
The difficult part will be not eating the entire pot in one go yourself!
We love it served with some vegetable crudités, breadsticks or a few slices of crusty bread like ciabatta or our Fougasse Bread.

ASDA Extra Special Almond Flavoured Filled Speculaas – 125 calories per biscuit
Not only do these ASDA Extra Special Almond Flavoured Filled Speculaas taste good, they look incredible too!
The texture of these Dutch-inspired speculaas is a cross between a cake and a biscuit: crunchy on the outside, but soft and spongy on the inside with a rich almond flavour.
For those family members that aren’t fans of mince pies, these buttery pies are the perfect alternative!
At 125 calories per pie, we think they’re well worth it for an indulgent tea time treat.
Although they’re slightly higher in calories than our typical slimming essentials puds, they’re a really substantial snack or dessert so we think they’re certainly worthy of a mention!
Try alongside a hot cup of tea or an after dinner pud. You could even serve them warmed through with a dollop of thick, creamy Custard!

Tesco Finest Gingerbread Latte Cream Liqueur – 165 calories per 50ml glass
It doesn’t get more festive than the lightly spiced, distinctive taste of gingerbread, and Tesco Finest Gingerbread Latte Cream Liqueur takes it to a whole new level!
Strictly for the grown ups, this creamy, boozy beverage has hints of coffee and gingerbread and is ideal for a Christmas day tipple.
Serve as an after dinner drink or a toast on Christmas Eve while the kids are in bed – we won’t tell!

Sweet spiced fruit, juicy sultanas and a hint of orange zest combine in this limited edition Chutney that we wish we could get all year round.
This chutney doesn’t have the bitter flavour you sometimes find with festive chutneys, and it’s only 48 calories per tablespoon: you get loads of flavour for the calories, you may be surprised how long the jar lasts!
Enjoy a dollop on a simple cheese sandwich, or upgrade your Cheese and Pickle Twists with this yummy chutney!
This Sainsbury’s Christmas Chutney is currently on offer for £1.30 for a 220g jar.
Waitrose Christmas Orange Meringue Shells – 58 calories each
These Waitrose Christmas Orange Meringue Shells might taste super indulgent, but they’re surprisingly low in calories!
Joyce Chalk shared these with us over on our Facebook Group and suggested serving them with some aerosol cream – which we think sounds delicious.
Each meringue shell has 58 calories, they’re suitable for vegetarians and they make a really light and tasty dessert.
Perfect for enjoying after your Christmas dinner, why not add some of the Waitrose Christmas Clementine & Cointreau Cream that we’ve featured further on in the article?

Looking for a vegetable side that’s a bit different this Christmas?
We think that these Morrisons The Best Parisian Carrot Baubles look super cute and really festive!
These sweet and tender carrot ‘baubles’ are in a butter and parsley sauce so they’re absolutely packed full of flavour.
Suitable for vegetarians, each portion counts as 1 of your 5 a day and can be cooked from frozen for maximum convenience.

Orange and Christmas go hand in hand and this Waitrose Christmas Clementine & Cointreau Cream is a really luxurious addition to any festive dessert.
This extra thick double cream is made even better with the addition of clementine juice and a grown up Cointreau twist.
It’s suitable for vegetarians and has 122 calories per serving which makes it a Christmas slimming essential in our opinion!
Spoon over your Christmas pudding or Mince Pies, or serve with the Waitrose Christmas Orange Meringue Shells that we mentioned earlier for a super indulgent dessert.

Sainsbury’s Apple & Cider Smoked Salmon – 82 calories per ½ pack
Salmon is an absolute slimming essential: lean, tasty and packed full of goodness and healthy fats.
This Sainsbury’s Apple & Cider Smoked Salmon adds a fruity, tangy twist to the traditional smoked salmon.
Low in calories but high in protein, salmon is a great alternative to read meat while still keeping you full and providing some essential nutrients too.
Made with lemon zest and the subtle flavour of cider and apples, this salmon is also sustainably sourced from Scotland, which makes it a winner in our book!
It’s delicious enough to enjoy alone with boiled new potatoes and Garlic Green Beans, but you could substitute the standard salmon in our fancy Salmon Fish Fingers.
A 100g pack of Sainsbury’s Apple & Cider Smoked Salmon is available for £3.75.
Morrisons The Best Duck Pate with Clementine Confit – 109 calories per serving
We love starting our Christmas dinner off with a delicious pate to start and this Morrisons The Best Duck Pate with Clementine Confit is the perfect choice.
It has 109 calories per portion and works really well when served with some crusty bread, crackers or as part of a cheese board.
We especially love it served with some toast slices though, as it takes us right back to our childhood.

Aldi Super 6 Update
We love Aldi’s selection of fresh fruit and veggies, and each fortnight they choose six of them for a special offer where you can pick them up for much less than the normal price.
This time, it’s full of Christmas staples so you can have your side dishes sorted without spending a fortune!
The marmite of the Christmas dinner, the secret to a delicious sprout is ALL in the cooking. Try Brussels Sprouts with Bacon for a salty, savoury side dish that might surprise you!
From Maple Glazed Carrots to Carrot, Orange and Thyme Soup, carrots are an essential part of Christmas!
Buttery Carrot and Swede Mash is a great alternative to typical mash, with extra veggie goodness too.
Honey Glazed Parsnips are a sweet, nutritious side, and really easy to make as you can leave them roasting while you get on with other bits.
Red and white cabbage
For something a little more indulgent, our Creamed Cabbage and Leeks is so creamy and rich, it’s hard to believe it’s slimming friendly!
A simple side that’s quick and simple: add a few Parmentier Potatoes to your Christmas dinner. Crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, perfect!
