We’ve used shop bought low fat meatballs for this Baked Spicy Meatballs recipe, so just make sure you check the Points and calories etc of whichever ones you choose. Of course, if you’d prefer you can also make your own using 5% minced beef!

We like to serve these Baked Spicy Meatballs with spaghetti and green beans, but they work well with any pasta really. You could even have them with a jacket potato – they’re super versatile and really tasty!

Step 1

Pre heat the oven to 160 degrees. Spray a large frying pan with low calorie cooking spray and sear the meatballs until the outsides are brown.

Step 2

Add the garlic and chilli and cook for 2 minutes, being careful not to burn it. Stir in the tomato passata and herbs and put the meatballs and sauce into an ovenproof dish.

Step 3

Top with chunks of the mozzarella and sprinkle over the parmesan. Bake for 35 minutes until the cheese is golden. Serve with spaghetti and green beans.

How do you know when these Baked Spicy Meatballs are cooked?

You’ll need to make sure that the outsides of the meatballs are brown before you place them into the ovenproof dish.

Bake for 35 minutes or until the cheese is golden.

Standard advice here in the UK is to cook food until it has reached 70°C and stayed at that temperature for 2 minutes. This is to keep your family safe.

  • 24 Low fat meatballs We used shop bought low fat ones
  • 2 Cloves Garlic Finely crushed
  • 500 ml Tomato Passata
  • 1 tbs Dried Oregano
  • 140 grams Light Mozzarella
  • 60 grams Fresh Parmesan Finely grated
  • 2 Red Chilli Finely chopped
  • Low Calorie Cooking Spray

Oh my word – just made these for dinner and they are lush! Made my own meatballs with 5% fat pork, onions and mixed herbs, used the sauce but added chunky peppers to it as well.
I had them with courgetti but the rest of the family had pasta. They all loved them. Think this will be a new favourite in our house.
