Tender beef stew and dumplings is as close as you can get to a hug in a bowl! In our lower-calorie version of this classic comfort food, we've used egg yolks in the dumplings. This keeps the taste and texture of traditional dumplings but with no suet in sight.

Hints & Tips

Below we added some of our communities most common hints and tips. We hope you find them useful.

The dumplings can be made in advance and kept in the fridge until they are needed.

NEW TIP
I added a red wine stock pot and a little herbs for extra flavour, missed out the mushrooms as we don't like them in a stew. Was really tasty and filling.
NEW TIP
Comfort Food
Made this for the first time as wanted something comforting in the rubbish weather! It did not disappoint. I had to add extra water during cooking as it dried up slightly in oven!
Top marks
We halved the ingredients as was just cooking for two. Was still plenty nice big portions and great for my partner who doesn’t really like veg but he ate it all as it was like hidden veggies once it was all cooked!
Used mince as don't like beef
Made the dumplings smaller from mixture so felt like you were getting more without being naughty lol was absolutely delicious I didn't think I could substitute ingredients but since starting with books again this week I've been able to and still lush
Amazing, you must try!
If you have a pressure cooker start buy sautéing the onions & beef before adding other ingredients then cook on pressure cook for 20 minutes on high pressure natural release for 15 then add the dumplings I cooked on sauté for 10 minutes then AC for !
Quick and easy cooking process. Tasted good full of flavour
Double up veg and stock for more portions AND I cooked whole process on the hob and cooked just as good
Dumplings
I added small amount of grated cheddar to the tops before cooking! I also made the dumplings using gluten free flour. They were really light.
Loved this. Tender tasty meat
So tasty. Add herbs to the dumplings when making. Such a fabulous recipe. Meat just fell apart!
Such a easy recipe to follow and full of flavour
