Do you need any special ingredients to make Chocolate Orange Brownies?
These Chocolate Orange Brownies are really simple to make, so don’t worry if you’re new to baking!
You’ll need some Chocolate Orange Choc Shot. It’s made by a company called Sweet Freedom, and you can find it in most supermarkets by the hot chocolate. It’s a low sugar chocolate orange sauce that’s almost a syrup. We always have a bottle in the cupboard, and it makes a great hot chocolate. You can even experiment with their other flavours like caramel or coconut!
It’s really important that you use self-raising flour and not plain flour as this helps with the rise. It’s also important to make sure you use baking powder and not baking soda.
You can pick up a good baking tin from most large supermarkets, or over on Amazon. If you can’t find Chocolate Orange Choc Shot in the supermarket, you can get it on Amazon too for a little more expense. It’s great with so many desserts.

Hi. I was really looking forward to these but am really disappointed as they have just come out like really bland (not very sweet) bits of chocolate cake with a bit of choc orange dotted about-what have I done wrong? 😩
HollyWednesday 16th February 2022
Hi Sarah, if you found that the recipe wasn’t sweet enough it may be down to the brand of sweetener that you used. We have a guide HERE about the sweeteners used in our recipes. Also the cocoa powder can make a big difference to the finished brownies. It’s best to under cook these brownies just a tiny bit, and leave them to cool in the tin. This carries on the cooking process so they’ll be just perfect and not over-baked once cooked. Hope that helps!

I can’t seem to find the orange syrup anywhere, any suggestions where I could buy it, or a substitute for it? I was thinking of low calorie syrup and orange flavoring?
HollyMonday 17th January 2022
Hey Tamzyn, larger supermarkets usually have a large selection of the Choc Shot range but if not it is available via Amazon there is a link on the recipe page which will take you straight to it! Hope that helps!

recipe says 4 chocolate orange slices yet in the picture there are 8 chocolate orange slices. Which is the correct amount?
SharonFriday 7th January 2022
Hi Helen, thankyou for pointing this out and for any confusion caused. The quantity of chocolate orange segments is correct in the ingredients list; 25g or 4 segments. Many thanks for getting in touch and hope you make and enjoy the Chocolate Orange Brownies.
