Do the instructions infer that you add the chicken stock at the start, along with everything else? Aside from the stock pot and the butter beans of course.
HollyMonday 2nd December 2024
Hey Chloe, yes everything is added in step one apart from sausages, butter beans and beef stock pot. Hope that helps!
MaryAnnWednesday 11th September 2024
The instructions say to add the STOCK POT to the crockpot (???) after cooking for a period of time. What does that mean?
HollyThursday 12th September 2024
Hey Mary Ann, this recipe uses a stock pot which are available in most supermarkets on the same aisle as the stock cubes. It’s a reduced down stock made into a jelly type pot that you can add directly to recipes with no need for extra water. Hope that helps!
ChezThursday 21st March 2024
Can this recipe be done in the oven as well or just the slow cooker?
HollyMonday 25th March 2024
Hey Chez, you can cook this recipe in the oven in a casserole dish with a tight-fitting lid, or in an oven tray with foil tightly wrapped around the top. Cook for 2–3 hours at 170–180°C (fan 150–160°C/ gas mark 3/4), checking every 30 minutes or so. Hope that helps!

Do I need to drain the butter beans?
LisaThursday 11th January 2024
Hi
Yes, the beans should be drained first
FaithSunday 22nd October 2023
Is the cooking time the same if I just want to make the main base and do my sausages in the air fryer later on
SharonMonday 23rd October 2023
Hi Faith, if you want to slow cook the vegetable mixture without the sausages, we would estimate it will take around 2 1/2 – 3 hours on high. We haven’t tested this so this is an estimation and we can’t guarantee the result. Hope this helps!

Hi, can I miss the tinned tomatoes out? I don’t like tomato based foods.
SharonThursday 19th October 2023
Hi kerry, the tomatoes are a main ingredient in our Slow Cooker Sausage Casserole so you can’t leave them out. You might like this sausage recipe instead as it doesn’t contain any tomatoes: Sausages with Creamy Lentils Hope this helps.
LynsayThursday 4th May 2023
Can I use frozen sausages and just add them into pot frozen or should I defrost first or cook them off a bit first in a frying pan?
SharonTuesday 9th May 2023
Hi Lynsay, if you’re using frozen sausages, you will need to thoroughly defrost them in the fridge before using them in this recipe. There’s no need to fry them before adding into the recipe; once defrosted, just follow the method as it’s written. Here’s an article that you may find useful: Top Tips for Food Safety and Hygiene Enjoy the recipe!

Do the sausages brown at all following this recipe (so putting the sausages in uncooked)? My hubby is funny about anaemic-looking sausages, so I just want to be sure. Thanks.
HollyThursday 2nd February 2023
Hey Beccy, If you prefer you can lightly brown the sausages before adding them to the casserole to give them a little colour, hope that helps!
LeighWednesday 18th October 2023
Brown them first. Then follow rest of instructions
JacqMonday 9th January 2023
I have followed this recipe to the gram but it won’t all fit in my slow cooker? The lid just about shuts but lots isn’t covered…
HollyMonday 16th January 2023
Hey Jacqueline, We use a 3.5L slow cooker to test all of our recipes so it sounds like your slow cooker may just be a little smaller than the size we suggest, hope that helps!
CatherineTuesday 3rd January 2023
The butter beans put me off as I don’t like them (and my children don’t either). Could I just miss them out or would I end up with too much liquid?
HollyThursday 5th January 2023
Hey Catherine, you could swap for a tin of baked beans instead or add some extra peppers, carrot or potato, hope that helps!
CatherineTuesday 19th March 2024
Has anyone left out the butter beans completely and not replaced them with an alternative?
HollyMonday 25th March 2024
Hey Catherine, you can omit the butter beans or swap them for extra peppers, carrot or potato, hope that helps!
KellyMonday 2nd January 2023
How do you work out what a portion size is to get the right calorie count?
SharonMonday 2nd January 2023
Hi Kelly, this recipe serves 6, so simply divide the finished dish into 6 portions and the calories stated will be correct for one portion. We make our calorie calculations based on serving size and not by weight, as the weight of a portion may vary due to variation of ingredients and water content so isn’t something we can do as an exact measure. Do hope this helps.

Which book is this recipe in please?

SusanSaturday 3rd December 2022
I found this was too acidic for my taste, but my partner loved it. I did substitute vegetarian sausages for regular ones and wonder if this may have made a difference.
SharonMonday 12th December 2022
Hi Susan, thanks for making our Slow Cooker Casserole but sorry you found it too acidic for your taste. The acidity will have come from the tinned tomatoes. Some cheaper brands can be a bit acidic so we would recommend using good quality tinned tomatoes. You can add a pinch of sweetener or sugar to reduce the acidity if needed.
JamieWednesday 2nd November 2022
It says at the stock pot in both steps 1 and 4. When do I add it? I added it all in step 1 and added air fried sausages chopped and butter beans in step 4. But just noticed it said add stock pot in both. Which is correct?
HollyThursday 3rd November 2022
Hey Jamie, in step 1 you add all the ingredients except for the the butterbeans and stock pot. The butterbeans and stock pot are then added in step 4, hope that helps!
LaurelThursday 27th October 2022

HollyMonday 31st October 2022
Hey Laurel, yes this recipe should work great with vegetarian sausages and stock, hope that helps!
