Why choose between your two favourite sweet treats when you can combine them into one dreamy bake? These Banana Bread Brownies just make so much sense. The natural sweetness of overripe bananas is perfect for baking – so roll up your sleeves and grab an apron. These super-easy brownies are ready in under half an hour, but we’d recommend leaving them to cool in the tin before slicing into squares.

Pop the kettle on and tuck into one for a mid-afternoon treat! That sprinkle of white chocolate chips on the top is the perfect finishing touch.

What diets are these Banana Bread Brownies suitable for?

This Banana Bread Brownies recipe is suitable for vegetarians. It can be made gluten free as long as you substitute the self-raising flour and baking powder for suitable gluten-free alternatives.

Please make sure to double check all of your ingredients if you’re cooking for people with allergies.

Hints & Tips

Below we added some of our communities most common hints and tips. We hope you find them useful.

When these brownies are left to cool in the tin they will carry on cooking a little, so undercooking them slightly in the oven will result in a perfect brownie!

NEW TIP
Sweetener alternative!
Don’t worry about having the golden caster sweetener, I used regular sweetener and they still taste great!
NEW TIP
Really easy to make! My 5 year old son made these, I did add a touch of water to the mixture to loosen it, and we cooked for a bit longer

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 170°C (fan 150°C/gas mark 3) and grease the cake tin with a little reduced-fat spread. Line the base and sides with greaseproof paper and leave to one side.

Step 2

Add the reduced-fat spread and sweetener to a bowl and beat with a wooden spoon until fluffy. In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, cocoa and baking powder. Add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients with the eggs and mix thoroughly until fully combined.

Step 3

Add two of the bananas to a small bowl and mash with a fork until smooth. Stir into the brownie mixture.

Step 4

Pour the brownie mixture into the lined tin and spread out the top until smooth. Slice the last banana lengthways into four slices and arrange on top of the brownie, pushing them into the mixture slightly.

Step 5

Sprinkle with the chocolate chips and bake in the oven for 16 minutes until the mixture is just set. Leave to cool in the tin and slice into 16 squares. These will keep for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
