You can’t beat the warming comfort of a stew topped with dumplings! We’ve used tender chicken pieces, mushrooms, spinach and a helping of Dijon mustard to make this hugely satisfying midweek meal. Our dumplings are made without a gram of suet in sight, and we’re so happy with the deliciously light results!

Hints & Tips

Below we added some of our communities most common hints and tips. We hope you find them useful.

Swap This

You can used diced chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts. You can swap spinach for frozen peas. You could use wholegrain Dijon mustard in this recipe instead of smooth Dijon mustard, but we wouldn't recommend swapping for English mustard as it is much hotter!

Delicious!
I added parsley to the dumplings
I put carrots instead of spinach
This is nicer the next day. Nicest dumplings I've had without suet. Didn't have white wine stock and it didn't matter. My son doesn't like spinach so used carrots
A proper winter warmer.
I thought 1 dumping each wasn’t going to be enough, so doubled up. How wrong was I?! A really filling meal. Think the dumplings would be great with a little low fat cheddar added too and add to the flavour of the dish. Will give that a go next time.
Delicious
I found the dumplings a bit sticky so added a little more flour to mould. They still turned out fluffy.
This was absolutely beautiful, full of flavour
Next time to make the sauce a bit thicker I may add bit more cornflour other than that no further tweaks!
Will definitely be cooking this again
I’d put mixed herbs in the dumplings next time but this recipe is delicious and easy to make. I used the slow cooker version.

Hi Alison, yes, it would be fine to use frozen spinach instead of fresh in this recipe.
