These rich and indulgent Nutella Baked Oats feel much naughtier than they actually are and they’re the perfect chocolatey, breakfast treat. If you prefer a drier texture to your baked oats, then we’d recommend using just one egg instead of two – they’ll be absolutely delicious either way!

Not only are our Nutella Baked Oats great for breakfast, but they’re also fantastic when served for dessert. We love ours served with some aerosol cream or even some sweetened, whipped quark.

If you want to make these Nutella Baked Oats ahead of time, then they freeze really well and can be easily defrosted and reheated, which means they’re fab for those busier mornings!

What diets are these Nutella Baked Oats suitable for?

These Nutella Baked Oats are suitable for vegetarian diets.

They can be made suitable for gluten free diets by swapping the following ingredients out for gluten free alternatives;

  • Oats

Please make sure to double or triple check all of your ingredients if you’re cooking for people with allergies.

Hints & Tips

Below we added some of our communities most common hints and tips. We hope you find them useful.

I made this go twice as far
I doubted the quantity and made some fir my son and me. He has a hearty appetite but found it too much for one breakfast, so we got 4 out of it. Very filling and tasty. Also used Cadbury chocolate spread as we didn’t have Nutella.
A super comfort breakfast and can be made extra special with added spices such as ginger, cinnamon and even nutmeg, can be turned in to a dessert too, so easy to make and so very easy to double up too.
Ideal to reheat in the microwave. A delicious breakfast!
I make a double batch of Nutella Baked Oats and cook in 3 individual dishes. It speeds up cooking time in the oven. I store in the fridge and microwave at breakfast time. A quick, easy and satisfying breakfast.
Love it
Serving with berries and natural greek yoghurt. Half now half for dessert later
Love this recipe but can only eat 1/2 of it so now cook in 2 separate dishes and get 2 breakfasts from one batch.
Biscoff and salted caramel baked oats
Instead of Nutella, I changed it to biscoff and added a teaspoon of zero sugar salted caramel sauce to the mixture before baking

Hi. I only have a 20cm dish. Will it turn out flat or should i add extra ingredients? Thank you.

Reply

    HollyWednesday 16th February 2022

Hi Laura, you may find that the baked oats turn out a little thin if you dish is larger than the one we used. You could double up the recipe so you’d have an extra portion for another time, this recipe can also be frozen once cooked. Hope that helps!

Hi,
It says to use fat free natural yoghurt. Can you use fat free greek style plain yoghurt instead?

Reply

    HollyWednesday 9th February 2022

Hi Tracey, yes you can use Greek yoghurt instead, hope that helps!

I have doubled the amount of ingredients, does this mean I need to double the cooking time too?

Reply

    SharonThursday 6th January 2022

Hi Chloe, you will probably need to cook it a little longer but you shouldn’t have to double the cooking time. We would suggest testing it after the stated cooking time and if it’s not done, keep cooking until it is.

Can I leave the eggs pit or use something as a substitute? I am intolerant of eggs. Thanks

Reply

    SharonFriday 7th January 2022

Hi Amie, the eggs in this recipe are an important ingredient as they will make the mixture set when baked. If you’re intolerant to eggs I would suggest buying some egg replacer powder and use according to the packet instructions. You can buy it from Holland and Barrett, Ocado and Amazon. Hope this helps.

Hi
Could milk be used instead of yogurt.
Thanks

Reply

    HollyMonday 22nd March 2021

Hey Jacqueline, I’m not sure how successful these baked oats would be using milk as they may be a little runny and not thicken when baked, hope that helps!

I’ve made these and they were lovely and again made them into smaller bits
But the recipe has 2 points purple on ww but it’s actually 4 when you use the ww calculator in the app it’s 2points per teaspoon

Hey Carren, I have had a look at this recipe and have altered the WW points accordingly thanks so much for your message!

I’ve doubled the recipe for the baked oats which then make 6 muffins, then I have 2 muffins each day for breakfast. For me this is the right amount for breakfast.
Really love trying different flavours in these. Thanks

I found the natural yogurt still keeps a that sour taste I’m not to Kean on. Can you recommend anything to substitute it for or would a vanilla muller light yogurt do the trick?

Reply

    HollyMonday 8th February 2021

Hi Thomas, we would suggest fat free natural yogurt or fat free Greek yogurt for this recipe but muller light should still work okay, just alter the calories accordingly. Hope that helps!

Hi,
I’ve just made these but not sure it’s the right consistency.

What should the consistency be like? I followed the recipe & baked for 35 minutes but its come out almost a soggy texture in the middle. Is this right?

Thank you

Reply

    HollyThursday 4th February 2021

Hi Louise, the baked oats should be thick and have a sort of cake like consistency. You may need to bake a little longer than the suggested timings if your oven runs a little cooler and if you prefer your baked oats to be a lot firmer and dry you can use 1 egg it’s really down to personal preference. Hope that helps!

Rachel BurnsThursday 21st January 2021

Can you use steel cut oatmeal for this? I have loads left from another dish.

Reply

    LisaFriday 22nd January 2021

    Hi Rachel
Steel cut oats have a different texture to standard porridge oats. They absorb liquid differently and take longer to cook, so I think the recipe would need to be altered to get best results from steel cut oats.

Do you need to use yogurt?

Reply

    HollyTuesday 19th January 2021

Hi Chelsea, the baked oats won’t really work without yogurt as they will be too dry and may end up a little rubbery with just the egg. Hope that helps!

Please helppppp

Hi Grace, this recipe serves 1 and contains 540 calories. If you divided the same mixture between 6 small dishes it would mean that each small dish would contain 90 calories. Do hope this helps and we’re so glad you liked the recipe.

Would Greek style yogurt work well?

Reply

    SharonThursday 17th December 2020

Hi Tanya, we haven’t tried this recipe using Greek style yogurt but it should work if your yogurt is a similar consistency to natural yogurt.
It’s worth noting that Greek yogurt has had lots of the whey strained out of it to make a very thick yogurt, whereas Greek style yogurt has had alot less whey strained out and is therefore a bit thinner.
So make sure to use Greek style yogurt to give the best chance of success. Thanks for getting in touch with your question and hope you enjoy this recipe.

Any standard porridge oats work for this recipe. It may overcook if you use instant oats, although that isn’t something we have tried. Hope this helps

Hi Louise, it’s not something we have tested for the Nutella Baked Oats. You would need to alter the nutritional information accordingly and you may find you need to add more liquid as it may become quite dry.
