Creamy Lentil Dhal
Lentils are one of our favourite ingredients. High in fibre and protein, low in fat and, most importantly, tasty! Dhal is a classic dish that makes the most of these versatile pulses, and can easily be made gluten free and vegan too. We have swapped calorie-laden coconut milk for a dairy-free milk alternative. You still get the great coconut taste and creaminess, but with fewer calories!

Could you make this in a slow cooker? I’ve been making it in a casserole dish on my hob as I don’t have a saucepan big enough but some of the dhal always sticks to the bottom!

What am I looking to buy as a dairy free alternative? Would I be able to get this in a tin?

Hi Jo
You are looking for a coconut plant based alternative to dairy milk. Popular brands are Alpro, Koko and many supermarkets have their own brands. You’ll usually find them in the “free from” aisle along with soya and oat milk.
Alternatively, you could use tinned coconut milk, but this would add extra calories.
